Søren Adam Sørensen was a man who made an enormous contribution to magic – and to fun things in general. He moved from his native Denmark to the USA at the age of two, where he lived with his family in New Jersey.
Søren found work in 1904 selling dye. He noticed that some of his products had a curious property – they caused people to sneeze, and set about extracting the substances responsible from his dye. After showing his new creation to his friends and family, Sørensen was inundated with requests, and so he decided to make a job out of it. He named the sneezing powder ‘cachoo’, and his company Cachoo Sneezing Powder Company.
In those first few years, Adams enjoyed tremendous success. But he knew that this could not last forever; sneezing powder, however hilarious, was not something that could hold the country’s attention indefinitely. He therefore renamed his company S.S. Adams Co., and set about creating a range of new products. Among these were itching powder, the stink bomb, and, most notably, the joy buzzer.
Adams would die in 1963, at the age of eighty-four. But his company still lives on, and on this page you’ll find some of their current output.
